Ausstellung italienischer Geigen in Füssen

Beitrag von Heidrun Eichler »

A new exhibition in the German city of Füssen celebrates the historical Violinmaking of Cremona.
In the Museum der Stadt, an ancient Romanic monastery, are exposed five historical violins: one of the instruments realized by Andrea Amati for the Orchestra of the King of France Charles IX in the middle of the sixteenth century, a Francesco Ruggeri 1675, the Stradivari “Vesuvius”, the Guarneri del Gesù “Stauffer” 1734, and a violin of nineteenth century by Enrico Ceruti.
Moreover it is possible to look up to five contemporary instruments, International “Triennale” Competition of Violinmaking “Antonio Stradivari” between 1976 and 2009.
The exhibition – promoted by the city of Füssen, the city of Cremona and by the Stradivari Foundation – is opened till 9th September. Together with the historical and contemporary Cremonese school, the show remembers also the ancient makers of lute, established in Füssen 450 years ago. Afterward the city became an important center for the German lutherie, and in the eighteenth century it numbered 80 craftsmen. Today that tradition can be retraced through instruments and original documents exposed at Museum der Stadt.
