Franz Xaver Hüller, born 12/29/1856, in Pechbach, founded his factory in Graslitz in 1880. The company name was F.X. Hüller until 1920. Then his sons in law : Anton Riedl and Ernst Modl became partners. The name was changed to F.X. Hüller & Co.

Franz Hüller died in 1936, and after that the company was run by his daughters, Susanna Riedl and Philipine (warum nicht durch Modl und Riedl?)

F.X. Hüller built saxophones for nearly 25 years—until the company was integrated into the Amati collective.

After WWII, Ernst Modl re-opened F.X. Hüller the company in Neustadt /Aisch and change the name to EMO (from his name Ernst MOdl). This company was closed after his death in 1972

Hallo zusammen,

20000 1923 (Start)
20200 1923 (Ende)
20400 1924 (Ende)
20600 1925 (...)
20800 1926
21000 1927
21200 1928
21400 1929
21600 1930
21900 1931
22200 1932
22500 1933
22800 1934
23100 1935
23400 1936
23700 1937
24000 1938
25000 1939
26000 1940
27000 1941
28000 1942
29000 1943
30000 1944
>30000 1945

http://www.fxhuller.com/duits/sens.php

http://www.ebay.de/itm/171935933983?_tr ... EBIDX%3AIT

Passt gut in meine interpolierte Seriennummernliste rein. Siehe weiter oben.

Hi tobi and intune,

I hope you don't mind me doing this in English, my German is rather poor?
That's quite an interesting theory you got there.
Especially when it comes to the gap between the 26xxx and the 30xxx range!
So far i only saw two saxophones in the 30xxx range and like tobi, nothing between 26xxx and 30xxx.
Besides that there are a lot FXH saxophones with no serial number at all!

yes, this is still a question.
i think the items without a number are sold in foreign countries, isn'it?

see you

I can't really tell, i located both numbered and unnumbered FXH saxophones in Germany, the Chez Republic and Slovakia.
The trouble is i don't know if they were actually bought new in those countries?
The horns i located in the UK were all numbered and stamped ''made in Czechoslovakia'' or ''foreign''.
I located one in the USA wich was numbered, and one in Brasil which was numbered too.

Thanks

Is it possible this gap got something to do with the horns FXH made for the army?
So far i only saw one of them which was numbered No 942/WL. 1939, build for the luftwaffe.
But we are talking about a gap of 3000 saxophones!! Instruments that had everything to do
with jazz, an American thing which AH didn't liked very much.

So it's likely that F.X. Hüller didn't produce more than 7.000 horns over all...

One more thing from my notes - I don't know, where I found this information, but I believe it was a brass-forum. However, it should be highly interesting for F.X.Hüller saxophone-fans. Key Statement is: the firm F.X. Hüller & Co. closed during World-War II. If we follow the logic of my series number table, the closure was about 1940 / 1941 (last noted series number 26743). Anybody who has hard facts about the timing when F.X. Hüller & Co. closed?
Regards, Tobi.

"
The EMO Company

In 1880, Franz Xaver Hüller (b 12/29/1856 - d 4/19/1936), founded a musical instrument company known as F.X. Hüller in Graslitz, Bohemia. Hüller used the WORLD trade name and his company logo pictured a nude female figure.

In 1920, to facilitate Hüller’s retirement, sons in law: Anton Riedl (b 6/6/1884 d 11/25/1935, married to Susanne Hüller 06/06/1911) and Ernst Modl (b 7/4/1892 d 9/7/1972, married to Philippine Hüller 09/06/1919) became partners. Together they took over the operations of the firm and to mark this transition, the company name was changed to F.X. Hüller & Co.

Of the two partners, Ernst Modl was the craftsman and inventor. Anton Riedl was in charge of management and sales aspects of the business.

Riedl died in 1935 at 51 years of age, and the firm suffered financially as a result. The company subsequently closed during World War II.

After WWII, everything left of F.X. Hüller & Co. that remained in Graslitz, Czech Republic was absorbed into the collective that became known as Amati.

People of German heritage were expelled from the Graslitz region after the war. So, at the age over 60 without financing, Modl started afresh in Neutsadt/Aisch West-Germany under the name of EMO (Ernst Modl O). Initially operating as a repair shop, the company’s first new instruments were built in the early 1950’s. Anton Riedl’s son, Franz Riedl (b 3/3/1927 d 1/9/2008) joined Modl in the resurrected business. Like his father, Riedl’s primary contribution was made in administration and sales.

EMO continued in business until 1973 when it was closed by Modl’s daughter following his death in 1972. After Modl’s death, the EMO brand was taken over by Franz Riedl. Under Riedl, EMO produced trumpet mutes, including Harmon and Wow-wow styles in aluminum and in plastic.

Andreas Schmidt (b 1939 ? - ), a supervisor at EMO during the time of Modl’s death went on to open a workshop of his own in Neustadt/Aisch. He continues to build trumpets.

From an online directory listing:

The DOB of 1939 above is estimated from a 2013 article wherein
Andreas Schmidt's age is given as 74 yo. A group photo at

Trumpet models by EMO include:

• Champion - Base model
• Professional,
• World
• World Deluxe Color - Noteworthy for its “three colors, rose-gold, nickel plate and lacquer. The third valve tuning slide has a really neat spring trigger. The valves and insides of the tuning slides are all nickel plate. The engraving is beautiful.
